Statements

Excerpts from a Statement by PLC member and Head of the Committee Defending the Rights of Palestinian Refugees
Husam Khader
February 3, 2001

PLC member and Head of the Committee Defending the Rights of Palestinian Refugees Husam Khader called for preparations to confront the results of the Israeli elections whether the winner is Barak or Sharon because this means the beginning of a new policy based on continuation of the siege imposed on the Palestinian people and their authority and leadership. This imposes on Yasser Arafat to listen to the appeals launched by the free persons among our people for the last seven years to salvage what can be saved with regards to the state of political, administrative and financial corruption that is starting to drown us all. Khader wonders why the President of the PNA continues to depend on figures that are suspected of political affiliations to countries that target our project and people. He also wonders why the President is not paying attention to the several appeals of the Intifada, which is a victory of the national current inside the Authority and which is led by President Arafat. Khader demanded from Abu Ammar to make a real Intifada and preempt time in front of the masses' turmoil and the feelings of disgust and despair because the figures of corruption are still at the top positions in the authority structure, warning that Sharon might take such a step before Arafat and strike the interests of this sector and expose them, which might cause a new embarrassment to the symbol of the National Authority and broaden the gap between the exploited masses and the corrupted people who became rich because they abused the power they were entrusted.

Khader demanded President Arafat to look around himself through his own eyes and not through the eyes of the liars and deceivers so that he can see the size of corruption and the extent of suffering and pain incurred by those corrupted people. Khader wondered to whom would President Arafat leave these matters if he departs because those corrupt people are in control of the destiny of the people of sacrifices and heroism. Khader wondered how many billions of dollars are in the accounts of those corrupt people when compared with the account of Mikki.

Khader demanded from all forces and individuals not to resort to violence and not to take the law into their own hands whether against the corrupted people or against the collaborators. He demanded the authority to respond to the appeal made by the wounded and martyrs and close the file of disgrace, represented in the Jericho Casino, which is the headquarters of the Shin Bet. He called for trying the devil that called for establishing this Casino and expel him from the Palestinian home.

Khader demanded the factions of national and Islamic action and national figures to raise their voice high and within the limited legal room they have to express the importance and need to make internal reform and get rid of the figures of political, administrative and financial corruption.

Khader stressed that the current situation is a national disaster with dimensions that are difficult to describe, stressing that there are cunning hands that swerved our direction and is pushing us towards a collective downfall so that they can escape with their bank accounts and escorts and privileges.

Khader said that confronting the new Sharon or the old Barak requires purifying and unifying the internal front.
