His Excellency president Housni Mubarak
His majesty king Abdullah the second
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
The region is standing at historic a crossroad, it is either the path of peace, progress and stability or the path of violence, extremism and terror. The key for the first path is in our hands.
In my turn, I address my partner, the Israeli PM Ehud Olmert, to start serious political negotiations according to an agreed upon timetable for the purpose of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in security and peace side by side its neighbor Israel. We have great responsibility before our peoples that elected us to fulfill the aspiration of their majority and to moor the foundations of a just, sustainable and comprehensive peace, and ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Despite of the deep Palestinian wound that resulted from the bloody coup in Gaza strip, I stress on our solid persistence and commitment to continue relentlessly exerting the utmost efforts and away from the squares of despair in order to achieve independence and freedom of the Palestinian people.
No one denies the depth of the tragedy that has happened to our people due to the military coup in Gaza strip, and its ramifications of plight, especially since we are still people under occupation. Despite this, I say that I did not come here to talk about the past and the conflict but about the future and hopes.
In this context I would like to stress on the following:
- Our commitment to the international legitimacy, the peace process and the signed agreements with the Israeli side, renouncing violence and terror, the principle of two states, Independent state of Palestine side by side the state of Israel that we have recognized when we exchanged the reciprocal recognition letters in 1993. This is the political program that the new Palestinian government headed by Dr, Salam Fayyad has abided by.
- The West Bank, including East Jerusalem and Gaza strip are one geographic entity that cannot be divided and the Palestinian people will remain united.
- We will work with the international community and the Israeli PM Ehud Olmert to continue the delivery of all needs and requirements of our people in Gaza strip, where 1.5 million (among of whom 87% live under the poverty line), are our responsibility with anything regarding their needs and requirements.
- Asserting the necessity of halting all settlement activities and the Wall construction, releasing the detainees and removing all roadblocks and closure, implementing Sharm A-Sheikh understandings of 2005 and transferring our seized funds. It is high time for creating the suitable climates to launch again a peace process and the political negotiations.
My hands are extended to the Israeli people to work together until we can manage mooring the foundations of a just, comprehensive and suitable peace and on the base of two-state principle, the Arab Peace Initiative, the Road Map plan, President Bush's vision and the decisions of the international legitimacy and the signed agreement that all stresses on the principle of land in exchange with peace and ending the Israeli occupation that started in 1967 and solving the final status issues, Jerusalem, the borders, the settlements, the refugees and others through direct negotiations. I am totally convinced that we can reach a historic solution that could be the base for a new era in the region.
It is not only my hands that are extended to the Israeli people; the Arab summit that was recently held in Riyadh had reasserted the Arab Initiative that was also adopted by the Islamic Convention Organization representing 57 states. This means that an opportunity for mooring the foundations of a comprehensive and just peace in our region and uprooting the reasons for violence, conflict and terror is possible. I call on you not to waste this historic opportunity of living as neighbors in two countries on 1967 border. If this will be achieved, the future will be of prosperity, progress and free and dignified living away from fear, occupation and violence.
His Excellency president Mubarak, his majesty king Abdullah and PM Ehud Olmert: the Arab Peace Initiative represents a possible opportunity that we must seize to end the suffer of the peoples` region and to achieve peace and stability for these peoples that guarantees the uprooting of the roots of extremism, violence and terror and mooning the just peace.
Our people are looking forwards for us today with hope that our summit could reach decisions of hopes and launch the peace process again in order that we can make a better future for all our children and grandchildren.
Thank you.
