Population sources and information
Description
Designated an international city by the United Nations. Its western part has been controlled by Israel since 1948. Its eastern part was occupied by Israel in 1967. Palestinians seek control of the eastern part of the city as the future Palestinian capital and boycott the Israeli city government that administers the city. The population figures presented here come from Israeli and Palestinian sources respectively, each using different borders.
