ISMAILIA, Egypt, June 26 (Reuters) - The Israeli army shot and killed an Egyptian smuggler and injured another on Saturday after they crossed into Israel carrying narcotics, security sources said.

The Israeli government will inform the Egyptian authorities that the army had opened fire after four Egyptian bedouin crossed the border, the sources said.

A number of bedouin in impoverished parts of northern Sinai have turned for cash to smuggling goods, weapons and migrants across Sinai's border with Israel and the blockaded Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

The Israelis took the injured man to hospital and the other two into custody. They planned to deliver the corpse of the fourth to Egypt within 48 hours, the Egyptian security sources said.
