JERUSALEM, June 28 (JMCC) - For the second day in a row, the
Jerusalem neighborhood of
Silwan witnessed heavy clashes between Israel police and border guards and Palestinian residents.
Dozens have been injured in the clashes as residents threw stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli forces, who fired tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets.
Gunfire was heard in the neighborhood early evening on Sunday, however, it was unclear where the shots were fired from.
A group of young people attacked a police patrol with stones, and as the jeep tried to speed away, it crashed into a private residence, reported JMCC.org's correspondent.
The neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied eastern Jerusalem, has been the focus of intense Israeli
settlement efforts. Last week, city officials decided to demolish 22 homes in the area as part of a plan to build an archeological park and Jewish housing.
