RAMALLAH, Jan. 14 (JMCC) - A Palestinian group advocating international boycott of Israel is calling on singer Bono to cancel a concert scheduled for later this year.
The concert would be equivalent to playing in the heart of apartheid South Africa, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel said in an open letter published Wednesday.
A whole generation was affected by your musical activism, when you sang of the civil rights movement in America, the everyday human heroes in El Salvador and the brave struggles in Ireland, the group wrote to the lead singer of the group Sting.
You filled a space that forced political morality into pop culture. Entertaining apartheid Israel despite all the injustice it is committing against the Palestinians would significantly smear this great legacy of yours.
In August 2002, Palestinian organizations called on international groups and individuals to implement a comprehensive academic, cultural and economic boycott of Israel.
