GAZA, Oct 27 (Reuters) - An Israeli tank shell killed a Palestinian militant from the
Islamic Jihad movement in the northern
Gaza Strip on Wednesday near the Israeli border, Palestinian medical workers said.
A second person nearby was wounded, they said. Islamic Jihad said the man was killed was on a Jihadist mission, an attack aimed at
Israel.
An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed that a tank fired a shell at two Palestinian suspects who approached the security fence and that it hit its target.
Islamic Jihad has been behind numerous
rocket attacks aimed at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, territory controlled by the
Hamas Islamist group. (Reporting by Nidal al-Mughrabi, Writing by Ori Lewis; Editing by Angus MacSwan)
