GAZA CITY, November 17 (JMCC/Reuters) - A car exploded in the
Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing two members of a fringe Palestinian Islamist group.
The pair involved were brothers and both thought to be members of the radical organization Army of Islam. Mohammad Yassin died instantly. His brother, Islam Yassin died after about an hour .
Israel's defense establishment confirmed that the attack was a
coordinated Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces operation reports Haaretz.com.
Medical officials identified Islam Yassin as a senior member of the Army of Islam, a group whose agenda of global jihad, or holy war, is shared with al Qaeda.
The Army of Islam is a rival to
Hamas, but the groups joined forces in the 2006 cross-border abduction of an Israeli soldier. The alliance has not endured. Israel targeted an Army of Islam militant in a strike earlier this month. (Reporting by Nidal al-Mughrabi, Editing by Susan Fenton)
