RAMALLAH, January 21 (JMCC) - Israelis and Palestinians met in Switzerland on Thursday to discuss, among other things, Palestinian participation in the 2012 Olympics,
reports UPI.
The [International Olympic Committee] said that both national organizing committees planned to assess current difficulties they face and work together on concrete proposals to deal with the issues. A second meeting was set for March, the IOC said in a release.
One particular problem is the free movement of Palestinian athletes and coaches, with attention given to Palestinians training toward a dream of talking part in the Olympics Games next year in London.
In that respect, the representatives of the Olympic Committee of Israel said that they were ready to offer training opportunities to Palestinian athletes, the IOC release said.
Also discussed was Israeli athletes' ability to take part in international competitions. Israelis are sometimes barred from such contests and Thursday all participants stressed their good will to use when possible their influence to address the issue with the relevant parties, the IOC said.
