GAZA, Jan 22 (Reuters) - An explosion in the
Gaza Strip near the border fence with
Israel killed one Palestinian man and wounded two on Saturday, Palestinian medics said.
Adham Abu Selmeya, spokesman for medical services in
Hamas-ruled Gaza, issued a statement saying the blast was an Israeli tank shell. An Israeli military spokesman said he had no reports of any Israeli army shooting at Gaza on Saturday.
Palestinian medics said the victim had been sifting through rubble for steel and cement to recycle, south of the
Karni border crossing with Israel, when an Israeli tank fired a shell.
Israeli troops often patrol the border area with Gaza to prevent gunmen from infiltrating or planting explosives.
