RAMALLAH Feb 16 (JMCC) - Residents of Silwan believe that the demolition of their homes is inevitable, even as city mayor Nir Barakat fights for a gentrification plan to rehouse residents in new apartment buildings.

“People want to stay in the homes they’re living in now,” one resident told the Jerusalem Post. “They don’t want to move and they don’t want to live on top of one another [in new four-story apartment buildings].”
