RAMALLAH Feb 21 (JMCC) - Palestinian unemployment has gradually declined since late 2008, reported the Palestinian bureau of statistics Sunday.
Those Palestinians out of work, according to the relaxed definition of employment, decreased from 31.4 percent in the third quarter of 2009 to 30.2 percent in the 4th quarter 2009. In the 4th quarter of 2008, unemployment stood at 33.4 percent.
The governorate of Hebron had the highest unemployment rate in the occupied West Bank at 23.6 percent, while Jericho governorate had the lowest unemployment rate at 7.1%.
In the occupied Gaza Strip, Khan Younis governorate had the highest rate of unemployment at just over half the population, with Gaza City governorate registering unemployment of 38.2 percent.
The highest rates of unemployment are among those Palestinians aged 20 to 24.
