RAMALLAH March 7 (JMCC) - Israeli arrests of Palestinian security members were up last year, despite a decrease in the numbers of Palestinians detained overall, says a new government report.
In 2008, slightly over four percent of arrests made were of Palestinian security officers.
In 2009, the percentage tripled to more than 12 percent of all arrests.
The report is causing the Palestinian Authority to charge Israel with perpetrating “violence” towards the Palestinian security apparatus.
More generally, Israeli raids into the Palestinian areas were up in 2009, to 14,024 raids, as compared with 13,699 in 2008.
The security service also claimed success at solving 95 percent of serious crime.
