RAMALLAH, March 17 (JMCC) - Until the
Palestinian Authority orders its security forces to join in protests against
Israel there will be no third Palestinian uprising, the Israeli military believes,
reports the
Jerusalem Post.
The Central Command has been holding daily operational assessments in an effort to foresee if the riots in
Jerusalem will spread to the
West Bank. On Tuesday, the IDF received an encouraging sign after the PA instructed its security forces to prevent violence in the West Bank and ensure that quiet prevails in Palestinian cities.
Other lessons learned on Tuesday were that
Hamas continues to maintain the ability to call out its grassroots in the West Bank and Jerusalem,
reports Haaretz.
Tuesday's violent demonstrations occurred mostly in the villages around Jerusalem:
Qalandiyah,
Shuafat,
Isawiyah, Al-Suwaneh and
Abu Dis. There were also incidents in
Hebron, in an area near the homes of settlers, and in
Bil'in. But these were not mass demonstrations and their explosive potential was contained in large part because of the firm, albeit relatively restrained, response by the Jerusalem police.
