RAMALLAH, April 23 (JMCC) - Prisoners at the Gilboa prison in northern Israel are threatening a hunger strike if they are forced to wear orange uniforms.

The decision to change the prisoners' uniforms was made several months ago by the Israeli prison service.

Palestinians associate the color orange with the uniforms of prisoners held at the US detention facility in Guantanamo, Cuba.

Making prisoners wear this by force is a type of racism against Palestinians and seeks to make them resemble terrorists, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society said in a statement.

The Gilboa prison houses approximately 9,000 Palestinians and is among 25 Israeli prisons. It is also a stop on security tours run in Israel that are meant to give tourists a glimpse of Israel's security industry.
