Nasser al-Din al-Shaer, was minister of education in the national unity government between March and June 2007, and also served as deputy prime minister and minister of education in the government formed by Hamas in March 2006.

Al-Shaer was born in 1961 in Nablus and holds a PhD in Middle Eastern studies from Manchester University, England. Later he worked as a research scholar at New York University focusing on American history. He took up the position of dean of Islamic studies and law at al-Najah University in 2001.
