Dr Samih al-Abed, a member of Fateh, was minister of public works during the Palestinian national unity government between March and June 2007.

Al-Abed was born in al-Bireh in 1947 and holds a PhD in development and regional planning. He was head of the department of architecture at Birzeit University and was a member of one of the first teams which worked with the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction, PECDAR. He was deputy minister at the ministry of planning and international cooperation and a member of the Palestinian team for final status negotiations during the Oslo peace process.
