Hasan Abu Libdeh served as secretary general of the cabinet in the thirteenth Palestinian government. He was appointed to this position by PA President Mahmoud Abbas and on May 19, 2009 he was officially sworn in. On October 25, 2009 he was appointed by PM Fayyad as economy minister, succeeding Bassam Khouri who resigned on October 3, after PA’s decision not to discuss Goldstone report at UN Human Rights Council. He was also minister of labor and social affairs in the ninth Palestinian government between February 2005 and March 2006.

He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Birzeit University, a master's degree in mathematical statistics from Stanford University and a master's in applied statistics as well as a PhD in applied statistics from Cornell University.
He was founder and president of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS). Between 1993 and 1994 he was a member of the board of governors and acting managing director of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR). He served as bureau chief for the prime minister and cabinet secretary in 2003 until he was made minister of labor and social affairs in 2005.
He is currently a member of the consultative council of al-Quds Open University.
