Hani Talab al-Qawasmeh was minister of interior in the national unity government from March 17, 2007 until May 14, 2007, when he resigned and Prime Minister Ismail Hanieh temporarily took over the interior ministry. He was an independent candidate and is not known to have any party affiliation.

Al-Qawasmeh was born in 1958 in Gaza, although his family is originally from Hebron in the West Bank. He obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting and a higher diploma in human resources from Cairo University before working at al-Azhar Islamic University in Gaza for 10 years. He then worked with the Palestinian Authority at the ministry of civil affairs for seven years, until he was appointed director general of administrative affairs. In the unity government he was a director in the ministry of religious affairs.
