Amro was born in Dura in 1947. He holds a degree in law from Damascus University and a diploma in media and radio broadcasting also from Damascus University. Amro founded and was general manager of al-Hayat al-Jadida, a leading Palestinian newspaper. He is director of the Palestinian Authority’s radio and television authority and is a member of the Palestinian writer’s union. He served as director of the Voice of Palestine radio station for 10 years and has authored three books.
Amro was involved in Palestinian politics for almost four decades, serving as a media advisor to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) chairman, Yasser Arafat. He was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in 1996, representing Dura in Hebron. He had previously served as the PLO ambassador to Russia. He is a member of the Palestinian negotiation team.
