Saleh Zeidan was minister of social affairs in the Palestinian national unity government between March and June 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

Zeidan was born in Lebanon in 1949 and grew up in Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon. His family is originally from al-Damoun village in Acre. He holds a degree from the Teachers’ Faculty in Siblin and worked as a teacher at UNRWA schools in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon before devoting his time to politics. He has been a member of the Palestinian National Council since 1977 and a member of the central council of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) since 1991.
He was a prominent military leader in Lebanon throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was a commander during the battle of 1975 to 1976 defending Tal al-Zaatar Camp and was one of the leading figures of the PLO in Lebanon during the war. Within the DFLP, he has been a member of the central committee since 1977 and a member of the DFLP’s Politburo since 1989. Between 1988 and 1996 he was the DFLP representative in Lebanon. Since 1996 he has represented the DFLP in the Gaza Strip.
