Presidential Elections 2005 Coverage


    Presidential Elections Final Results

    The number of Palestinians who voted reached 802,077 citizens in the West Bank (including Jerusalem) and Gaza Strip, and the compiling of all results of sorting in the various stations (2,838 stations) came as follows:

    Fatah candidate Mahmoud Abbas got 501,448 votes (62.52%)

    Independent candidate Mustafa Barghouthi got 156,227 votes (19.48%)

    DFLP candidate Taysir Khaled got 26,848 votes (3.35%)

    PPP candidate Bassam Al-Salhi got 22,171 votes (2.76%)

    Independent candidate Abdul Haleem al-Ashqar got 21,429 votes (2.67%)

    Independent candidate Sayyed Barakeh got 10,406 votes (1.30%)

    Independent candidate Abdul Kareem Shubeir got 5,717 votes (0.71%)

    Invalid ballot papers reached 30,672 papers (3.82%)

    Blank ballot papers reached 27,159 papers (3.39%)

    The voters’ turnout, the ratio of those who voted reached 71% of the voters' register which has been prepared recently by the Central Elections Commission while only 12% participated in the elections from the civil register which is issued by the Interior Ministry.

    It should be noted that around 1.8 million who are above 18 are entitled to vote, but those who registered reached 1,282,524 Palestinians according to the figures published by the Central Elections Commission.

    It should be noted that 26,365 Jerusalemite Palestinians voted out of 120,000 persons who have the right to vote.

    It should be noted that 70% of the citizens registered in the voters register which has been prepared in the past three months and more than 30% of the Palestinians did not register.
