The Jerusalem Media and Communication Centre (JMCC) introduce this collection of Palestinian Public Opinion Polls, conducted between the beginning of 1993 and 1998.
Although JMCC was the first institution to conduct public
opinion polls in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the past three years have
enriched our experience in respect to sampling frames, questionnaires,
field work, and analysis. Throughout this period, JMCC has adopted the
most recent and advanced methods and techniques in survey research, particularly
those applied in countries with conditions similar to those of the West
Bank and the Gaza Strip. A number of visits and workshops were held for
JMCC pollsters in internationally renowned polling centers. A number of
international experts have also visited JMCC to examine our experience
and to further train our experts and field workers, now numbering 300.
Our past experience has enabled us to follow the developments
and dynamics of Palestinian public opinion regarding pertinent political
and economic issues, and those related to different political bodies. We
have also objectively and scientifically followed the changes of Palestinian
public opinion vis-a-vis its political leadership and factions.
Furthermore, we have provided our polling services, including
market research studies, to a number of official bodies and public private institutions. Some of the results were published, and others were used
for the private use of those bodies.
Our objectivity and accumulated experience, the confidence
the people, public officials and the press have expressed in our work further
motivates us to continue with this work, encouraged by its role in building
a democratic civil society.
