JMCC Public Opinion Poll No. 38
On Palestinian Attitudes Towards the Camp David Summit - July 2000

in cooperation with Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC)




Methodology

A random sample of 1200 people over the age of 18 were interviewed face-to-face throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip on 16, 17 July  2000. The interviews were conducted in randomly selected homes, and the subjects inside each home were also selected randomly according to Kish tables. The interviews were conducted in 60 sampling points chosen randomly according to population.

In the West Bank, 760 people were surveyed from the following areas: Jenin: Jenin, Tubas, Jenin refugee camp,  Kufr Ra’ee, ‘Arrabeh, Syleth al-Harthyieh. Nablus: Nablus, Salfit, Askar refugee camp, Kufr alDeik, Boureen, Roujeeb, Deir Sharaf, Zowata, Huwara. Tulkarem: Tulkarem, ‘Anabta, ‘Allar, Tulkarem refugee camp. Qalqilia: Qalqilia and Jayous. Hebron: Hebron, Bani n’eim, Tarqoumia, Doura, Al-Fawwar refugee camp, Beit Ula,, S’eer. Bethlehem: Bethlehem, Husan, alDom, Nahaleen, Al-Azza refugee camp. Jericho: Jericho and Ein alSultan refugee camp Ramallah & Jerusalem: al-Bireh, Ramallah, Sinjel, Jalazon refugee camp, ‘Aqabeh, Silwad, N’aleen, Abu Deis, al – ‘Ezarieh, Beir Nabala, Kufr Aqab, Qalandia refugee camp, Jerusalem Old City, Beit Hanina, Shu’fat, Dahiat alBarid, al Ram, ‘Anata

In the Gaza Strip, 440 people were surveyed from: Gaza North: Jabalia refugee camp, Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun. Gaza:  Sheikh Radwan, a-Darji, a-Tufah, Sabra, al-Magharqa, a-Zeitoon, a-Nasser, a-Shujaeih, a-Rimal north and south and Shati refugee camp. Deir al- Balah: Nusseirat refugee camp, Deir al Balah, refugee camp, Deir al- Balah. Khan Younis: Khan younis, Khan Younis refugee camp, Bani Suheila, Khza’a, al-karara. Rafah: Rafah, Rafah refugee camp and Tal al-Sultan refugee camp.

The margin of error is 3 percent, with a confidence level of 95.


Sample Distribution
    51.7% of the respondents were from West Bank, 11.6% from Jerusalem, 36.7% from the Gaza Strip.
     24.3% said they live in villages, 16.9% in refugee camps, 58.5% in towns/cities.
     49.3% were male, 50.7% were female.
     The average age of the respondents was 34 years.
