RAMALLAH, June 8 (JMCC) - Member of the Israeli
Knesset Hanin Zuabi denounced efforts underway to strip her of her diplomatic immunity after her participation in a fleet of
aid ships headed for the blockaded
Gaza Strip.
Zuabi has been outspoken in describing Israel's interception of the Turkish vessel on which she was aboard, and where nine fellow activists were killed.
I reject these decisions, said Zuabi in a statement, which are made in an atmosphere of incitement. I am elected to the Knesset on behalf of the Palestinian people in
Israel, whose political and civil rights cannot be waived.
Zuabi called the steps political revenge.
What is happening to me and no amount of threats will not stop me from continuing my career as a Palestinian citizen seeking to protect the rights of her people. I insist on carrying out all the responsibilities of my duties, she said.
An Israeli parliamentary committee decided Monday by a majority of votes to recommend rescinding Zuabi's diplomatic passport, refusing to cover expenses of any judicial process carried out against her, and preventing her from traveling outside the country.
Implementation of these measures require approval of a majority of the Knesset's 120 parliamentarians.
