RAMALLAH, January 2 (JMCC) - Palestinians have approved a draft resolution to present to the UN Security Council condemning Israel's settlement construction, chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said Sunday.

He also said that Palestinians believe that the United States will veto the resolution if it is presented to the world body, reported the Jerusalem Post.

Palestinians have been searching for a way to move forward in their goal of establishing a Palestinian state on the land occupied by Israel in 1967. Bilateral negotiations have been stalled over Israel's ongoing settlement construction, despite efforts by the United States to bring the two parties back to the table.

Erekat said that Palestinians would not seek a unilateral statehood declaration from the United Nations, despite some calls to do so.
