RAMALLAH, April 11 (JMCC) - Egypt has suspended construction on a wall intended to stop smuggling into the Gaza Strip, reports an Israeli newspaper Monday.

According to the Jerusalem Post, progress on the underground steel wall has been stalled since unrest toppled Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak.

Israeli officials say they are concerned about the move in light of new meetings between Gaza's rulers, Hamas, and the new military council governing Egypt.

Israel has not lodged an official complaint with the new Egyptian government led by Defense Minister Muhammad Tantawi, but has urged Cairo to continue the previous government’s tough position on smuggling and to work  to take action to prevent the flow of arms to the Gaza Strip.
