Description The West Bank lies in southwest Asia along the Jordan River. It was occupied in 1967 by Israel after nearly two decades under Jordanian control. Its boundaries are determined by the 1948 armistice line between Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, however, Israel maintains military and civilian settlements within the territory. To the east of the West Bank lies Jordan; to its west, Israel. The West Bank and Gaza Strip are considered one geographical unit (occupied Palestinian territory) and were the subject of political negotiations between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. |
