Description The Gaza Strip lies in southwest Asia on the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It was occupied in 1967 by Israel after nearly two decades under Egyptian control. Its boundaries are determined by the 1948 armistice line between Israel and Egypt and Israel maintains military control over entry and exit to the territory. To the east of the Gaza Strip lies Israel; to its northwest, the Mediterranean and to its southwest, Egypt. The West Bank and Gaza Strip are considered one geographical unit (occupied Palestinian territory) and were the subject of political negotiations between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. |
